Equipment for people with a hearing loss
I have said many times there is never a good time to go deaf, but losing your
hearing today is far better than 20 years ago! Times have changed so much and the
telecommunications for example mean that we can all be far more independent than
in the days when we had to ask someone to make a phone call for us.
Equipment has become more accessible, more economical and more suited to our
lifestyle.
Social services department’s budgets are being reduced annually and providing
equipment inevitably becomes one area where financial cuts may be made. However
as equipment becomes more readily available on the internet or in the shops, the
price becomes less prohibitive and more within our budgets.
However the opportunity to try the equipment out to see if it does the job isn’t
always present and the retailers are often not aware of the needs of a person with
a hearing loss, or may not have the communication skills to converse effectively.
A home visit with an opportunity to try the equipment in your own home is an
effective means of finding what’s right for you and your hearing loss available.
